today we went to see my dad at his care home. afterwards we went to my mom’s to help her prepare for the fireplace installation that is happening tomorrow. then we all had dinner

fruit stew

yesterday, i had gone to the library to get a couple of cooking books. i do this every once in a while to get some new ideas / new recipes. one book was for stews which had a ‘fruit stew’ recipe and thought i ought to try something similar, based on the recipe

this morning i was to the store for ingredients. bought 4 apples (4 different types), 4 pears (2 different types), prunes (about a cup), and 1 lemon. at home i got out the slow cooker adding 1/3 cup maple syrup and 2/3 cup water. then i pealed, cored and eighthed the pears & apples. grated the lemon peal, then pealed and halved it. tossed in the prunes and added 1/2 cup dried cranberries. lastly, i stirred everything and cooked it the fruits on low for 6 hours

the result…. very tasty!

we went to the movies this afternoon as we wanted to see the new star trek movie that opened today. it was exactly as we expected the star trek movies to be; a good old bang-bang shoot them up flick

today was about getting my two sisters to the airport. their plane was departing at 9:30 and they wanted to be there for 8:00 a.m. traffic was light (well the route we took it was light) so we got there early and had lots of time for coffee and bagels before they departed

went for a run this morning (with lucy) and then we were off to get a few groceries for the dinner we are having tonight; bbq salmon, boiled new potatoes, caesar salad, baguette… YUMMMM

today we all met up at the shopping mall and got a few things (my one sister needing a new bag to get some of her new purchases home with her). we also found the bee’s wax store that my one sister found online and its located here in burnaby. bee’s wax is very hard to find, and this store does lots of national and international shipping and even supplies martha stewart!

this morning i took my sisters shopping as they wanted to get something for mother’s day. afterward, they went clothes shopping with mom. while they were clothes shopping, larry and i when grocery shopping at costco. then we all got together at my mom’s place and i made dinner

today all of us were off to my dad’s care home as they were having a mother’s day tea. we like to get to things they hold on my dad’s unit because the staff make such a good effort at holding these celebrations for the residents and the fact that hardly any family attend

today my two sisters arrived into vancouver. they were to arrive at 9:40 am, but did not get in till 11:40

they’d taken the train, departing last thursday from belleville ontario. sounds like, as a mode of travel, they’ve now done it twice: their first and their last….the travel by train was very long and slow

this morning, i was planning to run false creek, but the vancouver marathon was happening, so plan b became for lucy and i to run trout lake

this afternoon we’ll go see my dad at his care home and then go to my mom’s condo to do some chores in preparation for my sisters who are arriving tomorrow morning (and today we’re bringing the dinner)

larry must have done too much spring cleaning as he was tired and sore today, so we had a low key day today. we did managed to get to the dog park (which made lucy and zoey very happy)

had to take a picture of the blossom tree directly beside our motorhome…
